The human mind is such a powerful supercomputer. Studies have shown that the brain treats imagination like reality, activating many of the same neural pathways as when you do what you imagine. We use our imagination every day. I can imagine someone imagining themselves visiting their favorite restaurant the moment salaries enter (if that’s you, change your imagination to save a good portion too).
Imagination simply means to see something not present.
As believers, our imagination is such a powerful tool through which the Holy Spirit can superimpose the truth of God’s word into our reality.
Joseph was a young man in a family of about 16, and scripture records how, from a tender age, He was a dreamer. He shared with his family the dream he had had, and it was obvious that the hand of the Lord was upon him; no wonder his brothers were jealous. From such a tender age, he had planted the seed of what great destiny was ahead of him, and despite all the tribulations he passed through, he was so certain that what he had seen would eventually come to pass.
The world teaches that seeing is believing, but scripture teaches us that believing is seeing.
“Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. God’s word is filled with powerful and mind-blogging promises” — John 20:29
I strongly believe that there is a correlation between faith and imagination. Recently, pastor shared 4 things from Heb 11:13–15 (See from afar off, be Persuaded, Embrace it, and Confess it). One of the faculties we engage with in seeing from afar off is our imagination. As a matter of fact, it’s the starting point to receive from God, we have to already see that we have received it before we can ever receive it. That’s why God will plant pictures in our hearts through vision, dreams, study, and our prayer life. Indeed, if you can see it, you are closer to becoming it
There is something I did fresh out of school. I would go to the job board, look out for the kind of job I wanted, see the requirements, and start doing what was necessary to have those requirements so I could be qualified for those jobs, and trust me, it paid off.
It is important to note that imagination is just the first step; there is still the confession and the action, unless we are like the man who dreamt that he had several delicacies to feed on, only to wake up hungry and angry
Hab 2:1–3 captures this thought powerfully
“I will stand pon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Hab 2:1–3
I can pick 5 things from the scripture above
– Stand upon your watch:
This refers to waiting upon God. It could be in the place of our study, a place of prayer. We must learn to wait upon God always.
– Watch to see:
As we wait upon God, God will speak to us. These thoughts will form our imagination, fuel faith in us. Here, revelation is birth
– Write the vision:
This is where confession comes in. Write it down, confess it! Say it again and again
– Run with the vision:
Imagination and confession will spur decisions and actions. You would start acting in accordance with your imagination and confession
– Wait patiently
Patience is a powerful virtue all believers need to have.
Scripture says in James 1:4
“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” — James 1:4
If we do all the above, we can be assured that the vision will surely come
As I conclude my thoughts, I would like to mention two quotes that Pastor has mentioned a few times these past 4 weeks:
“Make no little plans here” — Oral Roberts
“When You See the Invisible, You Can Do the Impossible” — Oral Roberts
Do have a blessed day!
