Alexa, play me “Heaven by Jay Mike!
Have you ever wondered what heaven looks like? The street with gold, the house with many mansions — with no electricity issues, seeing and having conversations with the patriarchs and matriarchs of faith, getting the privilege to give Jesus a well-deserved long, warm hug with no time constraints — I know it would be better than I have ever imagined it!
Heaven is that place we all want to go after we leave this earth, cos omo é be things — lol in a fallen world😅!
What makes heaven heaven?
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.” — 1 Peter 3:18-20 (KJV)
It is important to note that “prison,” as stated in this scripture, means hell (crossref. Ephesians 4:9; Acts 2:24). Now, think about this for a second: Hell, by every standard, is not comfortable or anyone’s favourite place, but guess what? Jesus went there and held an evangelistic crusade in hellfire like it was nothing!
“…When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” — Isaiah 43:2b (NIV)
Jesus’ evangelistic crusade to hell reveals a profound truth — hell is not merely a place of torment; it is hell because it is devoid of God’s manifest presence. This means that hell is anywhere outside of God’s presence, will, or purpose.
Conversely, every step you take toward knowing, loving, and becoming more like God is a glimpse of heaven. You don’t have to wait until you leave this earth to experience heaven; you can taste it here and now through intimacy with God.
Intimacy with God is the key to making His presence tangible in your life. It fuels your spiritual fervor — not out of duty, but out of desire. You pray, not because you have to, but because you long to hear His voice. You read the Bible, not just for knowledge, but to discover His heart. You obey Him, not merely for blessings, but because bringing Him joy becomes your deepest satisfaction. Love drives your surrender — not because it is easy, but because your fulfillment is now intertwined with His pleasure. You long to make Him proud, to see Him smile — this is heaven on earth.
A simple yet powerful way to cultivate this heaven-on-earth experience is by engaging in honest, unfiltered conversations with the Holy Spirit. Tell Him everything — your joys, frustrations, doubts, and even the thoughts you feel ashamed of. Rant to Him about that frustrating colleague, the bus conductor who disappeared with your change — make every event in your life an avenue to have a conversation with Him.
In the same vein, be filled with thanksgiving always and everywhere, thank God for the good and the bad understanding that all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called unto His purpose (Romans 8:25). Thank God for new miracles and even old miracles it reassures you that God is with you always — you can listen to Altared Journey by Pastor Dami Oguntunde.
Finally, never neglect the fellowship of fellow believers. Surrounding yourself with like-minded lovers of Christ strengthens and sustains your heaven-on-earth experience. Consistent communion with those who share your faith keeps the fire of intimacy with God burning brightly.
As you go into the new week, remember Heaven isn’t just an afterlife destination; it’s a reality you can live in today, but it begins with intimacy.
Cheers
