Finding purpose and discovering exactly what you were created to do is one of Life’s truest blessings. But it is sometimes a confusing and difficult process for many.
Some stumble into their assignments; others just discover it quite easily, but for some people that God wants to specially process for special tasks, it is often an arduous process of abandoning what you want in the meantime and pursuing what God wants to eventually discover what you really want.
This is what is captured when Jesus said that;
“for whosoever will save his life shall lose it and whosever will lose his life for my sake shall find it’” Matthew 16:25
Every man approaches life with a degree of assurance about what they want to do. For some, God comes knocking and all your plans and laid out goals come crashing down. This is the process of losing your life for God’s sake.
The losing process is a painful one because you are separated from what you thought was the best thing for you at the time. In your limited wisdom, nothing could be better for you, but when God comes knocking, everything seems to ‘scatter.’ This is the point when your true journey to self-discovery begins. Many at this point either quit the process or just keep trying to reach for the same thing.
Only one thing is expected of you here: forsake all your plans and ways and abandon every goal and dream you thought you had. Then seek God and only God. This is a very difficult thing to do. Because it will make you look like a fool. It will make you look like you don’t care about your life. It will make you look like you don’t have plans to succeed or prosper. But you are very much on track.
Once you are able to forsake all your plans and anchor yourself to whatever door God opens up, your journey is very much still on track. Be sure to know that the door that God will open up will most likely be a ‘small’ door to do a ‘small’ thing in a ‘small’ place with a ‘small’ reward and a seemingly ‘small’ future. But all these ‘smallness’ is a ploy by God to test and train you. They are actually not ‘small’ doors.
Behind the ‘small’ doors and the ‘small’ place and the ‘small’ things and the ‘small’ rewards and seemingly ‘small’ future are great and massive doors and breakthroughs that will lead you to your destiny. But they are hidden from you. This is the platform for you to begin to know God by staying in that smallness with godliness and contentment. Remember godliness and contentment brings great gain. Godliness is diligent study of the word, meditation and prayer. Contentment is not complacence. It is satisfaction but not abandoning your vision for a bigger and great future.
With the two qualities of godliness and contentment you will learn patience, obedience to God, love for people, service, giving, reliance on grace, deadening of self and great skill and understanding at the seeming small place and many other great stuff. Before you know it, that seeming small place, after you have learnt your lesson, will open up something massive to you gradually. And before you know it, you are standing in your Life’s purpose and in your assignment. Moses, Joseph, David, and even Jesus all followed this path.
My dear friends, this is a long and patient process but it is the right way to the right discovery of who you are and what you are to do. You’ve got to lose your life to find it. If your life is on this path, be patient, be at peace and work out the discovery of yourself with fear and trembling for it is God working in you to will and to do.
Do have a stellar week!
